What’s New in Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Grants Program 2026

The 2026 Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Grants Program operates in San Diego County and follows County WUI requirements and California PRC 4291. The program provides funding to eligible homeowners for defensible space and structure hardening improvements. 

This funding supports Priority Zone Zero and Vent retrofit projects that reduce ignition risk from wind-driven embers. Both Priority Grant types are open through August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., are not subject to parcel score selection, and remain contingent on final review and available program funding. 

Note: For the 2026 Sunrise Powerlink Grants Program, the County of San Diego does not require a building permit for approved vent retrofit projects.

Essential Information You Should Know About the Sunrise Powerlink Grants

  • You can use the 10-digit parcel number or select it directly from the interactive map displayed to locate your parcel. 
  • Once a parcel is selected, its details will appear below the map. 
  • If your parcel qualifies for the application, you’ll notice a blue “apply” link adjacent to the parcel information. 
  • This procedure is intended for desktop computer users—click “APPLY” to start filling out the online application. Note: Mobile devices cannot access the application through the blue ‘Apply’ link. 
  • If your parcel is eligible and you prefer to receive a paper application, you can request one to be mailed to you via the US Postal Service by clicking the “Request Application” link.

Application Process

  • Eligible parcel owners may apply for one Priority Vent Retrofit Grant in 2026. Click here.
  • Applications are accepted January 2, 2026, through August 14, 2026 (5:00 PM) and are not subject to Parcel Score selection criteria.
  • Applications may be completed online using a desktop computer only or submitted as a printed application. Mobile devices cannot be used to create or submit an online application.
  • A complete application must include a current dated estimate for code-compliant vent replacement and installation, 2026 “before” photos of vents, defensible space or structure hardening areas (as applicable), and a completed, legible, signed W-9 (2024 IRS version).
  • Completed applications must be submitted by March 6, 2026, 9:00 a.m. Once an application is submitted, it cannot be edited, and no additional documents will be uploaded.
  • Once the application is successfully submitted, the applicant will receive an automated confirmation email from donotreply@sunrisepowerlinkgrants.com.
  • The application status remains “UNDER REVIEW” until grant award notifications are emailed between March 29 and April 3, 2026.
  • Printed applications may be requested through the website or by calling 1-619-722-7512. If you cannot print, sign, scan, and upload the required W-9 and 2026 “before” photos, your application will be incomplete & will not be accepted.

For an application to be considered complete, all required elements must be provided:

    • Every application question must be fully answered.
    • A completed, signed, and legible W-9 form (2024 IRS version) is required.
    • Documents uploaded through the online application must be clear and readable.
    • Applicants must submit “Before” photographs of the project area taken in 2026, following the photo instructions included in the application.

Reimbursement Program

Homeowners are responsible for arranging and completing approved grant projects. The Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Grants Program does not perform the work or provide services. Reimbursement is made after the project is finished, all required documents are submitted on time, and the work is inspected and meets program standards. 

These documents include work completion forms, paid receipts, and inspection reports. To receive reimbursement, the property must follow the County of San Diego 2026 WUI Code and defensible space requirements. The address must be clearly visible from the street (Zone 0, Zone, and Zone 2). All completed work must meet program safety standards and may be reviewed to confirm the final award amount.
